ella loves to cook, and since earlier this year she has been bringing me the bag of felt scraps and asking me to make food for her play kitchen. she stands patiently by the sewing machine and snaps up each thing as soon as i snip the threads. so far we have:
breakfast, which is flap jacks, sausage, and an egg (notice--no butter, no syrup--a child after my own heart):
lunch, which is two slices of bread, a slice of cheese, a slice of tomato, two lettuce leaves, and occasionally a hamburger patty:
dinner, which is what you and i call spaghetti noodles but which ella calls "doggie woodles", a la' lady and the tramp:
snacks, which are a piece of california roll, chocolate chip cookies, and a fortune cookie (the fortune cookie really "works", i.e. it opens flat to put in the fortune, then little pieces of velcro hold it closed. ella puts in fortunes herself, and they read something like, "mama is bery proud to you today!"):
a cake which she can decorate as desired with "frinkles" and a strawberry on top:
and her favorite, which she cooks nearly every day, fish stew:
the fish stew is a little disturbing--she told me to make a mama fish and a baby fish and a brother fish, she put them in the pot to cook and then she sang a fish stew lullaby.
